The Odyssey claims victory for Schweida Racing in the QTIS Jewel
The smile on the face of Stephanie Thornton summed up a terrific performance by Kelly Schweida stable star THE ODYSSEY who took out Saturday's $300,000 QTIS Jewel in spectacular all the way style. The 3yo colt has now won just shy of $1 million.
The feature victory was the second for our clients with Barry Baldwin also tasting success at the Gold Coast when Jake Bayliss upset the punters on MOTION GRANTED at odds of $26 when swooping over the top for a two length win - the horse's ninth win of his career. MOONSHINE LADY made it 3 wins from the last 3 starts for Eagle Farm father-son duo Peter and Will Hulbert.
Cranbourne trainer, Matthew Brown kicked off proceedings on Caulfield's big day for the All Star Mile, with Mitchell Aitken steering EXASPERATE home to claim victory in the Grand Handicap Mile. Aaron Purcell and the Enjoy Racing Team were all smiles too with a stoic effort from Liz Meech and GUIZOT to cross the line first in the Anniversary Vase Stakes. A shout out also to the super impressive team of Grant and Alana Williams who made it a Perth Quinella in the All Star Mile!
A game run to finish fifth with Dalasan in the All-Star Mile, the Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas stable also enjoyed success when SERIOUS SPENDER bolted in by no less than 4 ½ lengths over 1950 metres giving Jason Holder an armchair ride. Ryan Balfour tasted success when LARKHAM was a dominant winner of the first race for three-year-olds, at just his second start the son of Sidestep looks to have a nice future. Goolwa trainer, David Jolly also found the winner's circle with a convincing win from 6 year old gelding, BOLT I AM.
Days don't get much bigger than those celebrated by Gary Clarke on Saturday when the stable had four winners at Darwin thanks to rides from Jarrod Todd and Kim Gladwin. DIVINE RED went one better than his last start second, JAVA continued to a be star of the Darwin scene taking the St Patricks Day Cup while the winning machine THE CAPTAIN and $11 outsider THE AUDITOR made up the day.
Congratulations also to our trainers who frequented the winner's circle at Ascot. Bruce Watkins teamed up with Jason Whiting on his Blackfriars gelding MR KUNAFA who has now won four of his eight starts. David Harrison got the job done with MEDIA BARON, and CAROCAPO returned to winning form for Jim Taylor. Dan Morton and his team didn't miss out with impressive mare SHERPA LASS making it 4 from 4 career starts!
Dan Meagher trained LIM'S KNIGHT raced to victory in Singapore on Friday evening, while Stephen Gray's Copperbelt stables picked up a double with HEAVENLY DANCER and APOLLO ROCK yesterday. To South Africa where Brett Crawford found the winner's circle in Durbanville with INDI ANNA and REMUS, as did Glen Kotzen with SIX DEGREES, while further south at Durbanville, Mike de Kock had success with both VASEEM and FAYROOZ.
