The Late Mail...

Around the Traps...

Tatum and Polly reunited again...

Last week, Racing Victoria put together a feature article on our retired racehorse Till It's Over, or Polly, as was her stable name and how she is now referred to. RTD acquired Polly as a weanling and raced her for 2 years on the track. She won 3 races and earned over $85,000 in prizemoney, however we never saw the best of the big mare. During her time with trainer Paul Preusker, Tatum Bull was apprenticed to Paul and fell in love with Polly. Tatum was there to see her first win on debut at Donald and the rest they say is history.

While Tatum went on to progress her career, she would check in regularly with the RTD to see how Polly was going, particularly when Polly's career slowed due to injury. When the decision needed to be made to retire her, the RTD team were quick to contact the owners offering one solution only and that was to see if Tatum wanted to take Polly. The answer was an overwhelming yes from all owners and the phone call to Tatum was one of the best phone calls Steve has ever made.

Below - Check out the amazing story below of Till IT's Over a race mare we have had since a weanling and now in the forever care of jockeys, Tatum Bull and partner Daniel Stackhouse.

Almanzor Filly by sire of the moment from NZ's best farm Cambridge Stud

By sire of the moment from NZ's best farm Cambridge Stud

We love buying from the best studs as you have confidence knowing that their yearlings have been given the best opportunity. This filly is the perfect example of that, by world class sire Almanzor, and by a striking mare by Zoustar, and the result is a beautiful filly bought at New Zealand sales earlier this year.

We couldn’t believe it when the gavel went down and we picked up this gorgeous Almanzor filly from the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka yearling sale. Purchased from the famous Cambridge Stud in New Zealand, this filly is by Terrelune who was unraced but is a half-sister to 2YO champion NZ sprinter Marky Mark and is by super sire Zoustar.

This filly has beautiful balance as you can see from the video below and has a lovely fluid action. She will be trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman at their Mornington stables and this filly won’t take too long to get going as she has certainly thrown to her dam’s side and looks quite precocious.

With only 40% remaining our filly has remained in New Zealand and we will be looking to bring her back in the spring. Anthony and Sam can't wait to get this filly into the stable so get in touch today to reserve your share.

Share price $5,370 for 5%

Only the three runners across the country last week, with little niggles to Snippety Bobbins, and a change in direction for Mortar who has been saved for this week. Check out the results from last week's runners below.

Last Friday at Geelong we saw Anahita go oh so close to winning, running a nice second. She looked the winner half way down the straight but jockey Beau Mertens said she just switched off late when she hit the front and got mowed down by one finishing fast down the outside. While we were disappointed she got beat, she is on the right path and she will be winning soon.

On Friday evening we saw Futuristic try to break his duck and what turned out a messy race from the wide gate, he stormed home to again only be beaten narrowly for second. Having missed the kick and going back we may have found the trick to this guy as he has always gone forward in his races. We will look to give him another run where we will ride him cold and have him finish off to get that maiden win he deserves.

Hongbao went around at Morphettville on Saturday after a quick 10 day back up and trainer, David Jolly said that might have been the issue with the flat performance. While he raced well, the slow speed meant that when the leaders quickened it was tough for him to make ground. He was also held up momentarily, but we didn't see that explosive finish. He has come through the race well and we will look for another race in a few weeks.

This Week's Runners!

Up to 3 runners this week all across the country. Good luck to all our owners!

Two runners at Warracknabeal on Saturday, firstly we have Snippety Bobbins going around in the 1800m maiden. He has drawn terribly in barrier 13, but has the services of Jack Hill in the saddle. It's an on speed runners track and he will need to be tactical to find a spot, but he is fit and well and the distance won't worry him so have an each way play and let's hope he gets some luck at the right time.

Our second runner at Warracknabeal on Saturday is Mortar going around in a BM58 over 1600m. He has had some niggles but trainer, Henry Dwyer is happy with the son of Tarzino and we are hoping for him to be doing his best work late. He is a horse that will benefit from this run and he will be ready to fire second and third up over 2000m and beyond.

Next Wednesday Snow Boum has been nominated for a Class 1 at Doomben over 1200m. We have given her a freshen up after her below par run last time out. She has had a trial between runs where we allowed her to settle off the pace and teach her to relax. She did that well and we are hoping that she will improve with that racing style next week.

Bear's Best Bets for the Weekend!

What a week to have system issues with the newsletter platform! Rob sent his tips through but during the editing stage of the newsletter they weren't saved and he had a fill up...with Dunkel saluting as his best each way of the day $12 if you don't mind.

Sincere apologies to all of our subscribers who follow the big fella religiously.. Let's take a look at what his best bets for the weekend are below.

Good punting to you all...

Best of the day - Morphettville - Race 5 - Number 9 - Foxy Frida - I am with Andrew Noblet's mare Foxy Frida.  The 5YO mare is a model of consistency. Last start ran 2nd to Caste in a Gr2 race at the same track. Note the big margin to third (4+ lengths) . Always a good sign when finding winners.  Billy Egan has been on fire since returning to the saddle from injury and last week won his first Gr1 winner on Dunkel in the SA Derby.  Best Bet of the day $1.85.

Best each way of the day - Morphettville - Race 8 - Number 4 - Kallos - This horse burst onto the scene as a 3YO winning the Gr2 Danehill at HQ stakes as a colt.  The Blue Army made the difficult decision to give Kallos the ultimate gear change & geld. Last prep ran 2nd to Asfoora in a Gr2 race & this preparation is 3 from 3 & heading for a picket fence. Barrier 4 & Benny Melham - he is flying under the radar & has a good chance to win his first Gr1! Each way all day @  $7.50 & $2.60
