Around the traps...

Above - Great to see Presser return to form going the other way around in Sydney this week

On the Track
After a couple of scratchings we ended up with 3 runners across Oz and NZ and it was great to see Presser return to form with a change of scenery in Sydney. This week we have up to 7 runners all over the country, and a couple of special runners. Firstly one of our own homebreds, Mr  Shorty, bred by his owners starts his racing career. He is by Puissance De Lune out of Stripping Royalty, a mare we raced some years ago. It's quite an accomplishment in getting a horse to track let alone winning a race. Congrats to all the owner breeders in your patience getting him this far, let's hope he goes well next week.

We also have our first horse bought out of the Tattersall's horses in training sale from the U.K, Overactive. He was bought at the October sales last year with the Freedmans and is now ready to kick off his Australian campaign at Sandown on Wednesday.

Magic Millions Sales

The Magic Millions weanling and broodmare sales have just finished this week and the prices of some of the broodmares were out of control. The top end of the market is unbelievable at the moment and if you have a nice filly/mare with a good pedigree and black type you are going to hit he jackpot. With the big players in the breeding industry like Coolmore, Yulong, Newgate and Arrowfield leading the way to improve their broodmare band.

Champion mare Imperatriz was the star of the show. The multiple Group 1 winning daughter of I Am Invincible smashed the sales record in Australasia realising $6.6m and was sold to Yulong Investments. We can't wait to see which stallion she goes to first and seeing her progeny through the sales ring in years to come.

RTD Open Day Reminder
Another reminder that the RTD open day is coming up very shortly. This year we are visiting Sam Freedman and the team at their Pinecliff stables in Mornington on Monday 10th June. Should be an absolute cracker of a morning. See article below for all the details!

Flemington Winter Series Event

Last Week's Runners..

Mahrez went around last Friday at Geelong in a 1543m BM64 and it was a pass mark for him first up for the prep. Trainer, Lindsey Smith was happy with him and has always said he is a horse that will improve through the prep. He will head back to Geelong in a couple of weeks over a little further and will be very competitive next time out.

On Sunday English Gambler went around at  Woodville in a 3000m Open Hurdle. Such is his enigmatic style coming off a great win first up,  he went to the lead but lugged out the whole way giving the jockey a tough ride and finished seventh beaten by 16 lengths. You just don't know what you are going to get with this guy, we guess that's what makes it so interesting being in the ownership group. Good luck to trainer, Lauren Brennan getting him ready for his next assignment!

On Wednesday we saw Presser have his first run in Sydney in a BM72 over 1550m at  Canterbury for Matt Smith and when we saw the horse we knew he would be winning in great fashion.  He got a great run from barrier 2 behind the leaders and on a soft 5 track he picked up beautifully and accelerated past the leaders for a comfortable victory. There are some valuable highway races in the coming weeks worth good money and we will aim him at these as his next assignment.

This Week's Runners...

One runner today at Seymour and that's the return to the track of Rhapsody Chic.  He will line up in a 1200m BM64.  After a couple of luckless runs at Sandown on firm tracks we gave him a few weeks off in search of wet tracks and what do you know, the track today has come up a heavy 8!!! Drawn wide but by that time of the day it shouldn't be a problem, have a bet!

Mr Shorty makes his long awaited debut at the at Werribee on Saturday over 1400m  in a maiden. This is a special moment for RTD and his very patient owners as he was bred by the team by Puissance de Lune out of our race mare, Stripping Royalty. This guy is bred to stay so we aren't expecting too much from him this time out and we hope he's hitting the line so we can push out to 2000m and beyond.

On Saturday we have Barbaric Lad going around at Eagle Farm for the $1m Gr2 Sires Produce over 1400m. Huge thrill for the owners and it's a step up for him but Anthony Freedman is very happy with him. Luke Currie sticks with him and from the wide gate, we hope he is finishing hard down the outside. All things being equal it tops him off for the JJ Atkins in a couple of weeks time.

On Wednesday at Sandown we have another interesting runner, Overactive going around in a  1400m BM70. This guy was bought from  the Tattersall's Sales in the U.K with the Freedmans in October last year. He has acclimatized really well and the team are very happy with him, and we are expecting a forward showing from him. Obviously he will improve as the prep goes on and he gets out in trip.

Also on Wednesday at Sandown Unthinkable goes around in a 1600m Fillies & Mares BM70. Her runs after a little let up have been better than they look. Her most recent at Bendigo was good even though the race wasn't run to suit. If she can draw a gate ( please barrier gods) and roll forward she will be very hard to beat.

Motitsi  also goes around on Wednesday at Sandown in a 1000m BM70 after a nice long break from the track for her. She had a good prep last time out and the break has done her the world of good. First up this time over 1000m she is fit enough to run well and we are hoping for a bit more rain as we know the big girl loves to get her toe in the ground.

Keefy's Bro will have one more run before heading to the paddock. He will go around on Thursday at Geelong in a 1700m maiden. He is going really well and trainer, Maddie Raymond is keen to get him a win before turning him out. He looks like he is crying out for further and he was only beaten by a good one at Stawell last time out. He is a good each way chance if he draws well and can bowl along on a nice tempo.

Bear's Best Bets for the Weekend!

Tough week on the track for the big bear! His best of the day was Fasuto who ran ordinarily beaten over 6 lengths as a $3 favourite. His best each way of the day was Belle Et Riche and she too was disappointing, finishing 9th although not beaten too far.

There was a bit of head scratching Saturday night and the new strategy this week is to head to the Brisbane Carnival and tip some nice horses, and he has found a couple of really nice horses to follow below... good strategy big fella!

Let's see how he goes this week.

Best of the day - Eagle Farm  - Race 9 no 4 Coeur Volante - Best bet is in the last race of the day. Coeur Volante is a Group 1 filly in waiting. A few big ticks here -  winner first up, winner over distance, a low marble and B Shinn in the saddle. Coeur Volante is by one of the most promising young stallions in Aus and NZ - Proisir. Elite form last preparation running into horses such as Joliestar and Skybird. She is taking on the older mares on Saturday but her class will be the difference! Best bet of the day! Win @ $5.50

Each Way Eagle Farm - Race 6 no 4 Corniche - Fred Best Classic is a set weights race for 3YOs over 7 furlongs. Last start, Corniche appreciated the step up in distance and was a dominant winner. Corniche savaged the line when he pinned the ears back and went bang over the last 50m.  Corniche has raced against the fave Schwarz and there is little between them - so that is the obvious danger. Steparty been given the visitor draw in 22. Corniche is an each way bet in a cracking edition of this race. Each way @ $8 & $2.80

Good punting!
