The Late Mail...

Around the traps...

Above - The week in review, Rob at Mitch Freedman's, Hedged owners going off, Capitalist colt SOLD and Lauren Burke gave Our Silver Linings a peach!

They say a picture tells a thousand words, and this montage above pretty much sums our week.

Rob spent a great morning at Mitch Freedman's open day and yearling parade. We are loving the relationship we have with Mitch, and he is a trainer going places so we were more than happy to support his day, and do a Q&A around our journey with him and his team. We have a couple of lovely yearlings with Mitch, a Churchill filly bought at Magic Millions and a Shamus Award filly bought at Inglis Classic, with a couple of small shares available. Also, look out for RTD's open day, currently being finalised in the next week including dates and locations to come.

Top right, the agony and ecstasy of racing was on show for owners of Hedged last Saturday in the Gr.2 Arrowfield Stakes at Randwick. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and we were beaten by a short half-head. The only issue was someone forgot to tell our effervescent owners Jaklina and Jody who thought our boy got the bob! We love this passion from our owners and while we didn't get the choccy's, everyone had a ball on track and we couldn't have been prouder of Hedged running a career peak.

Bottom right, our Capitalist colt bought at Inglis Easter last week is now fully sold. Our owners are backing our team to find the right horses at the top end. Congrats to those who got in early and to those who have missed out and are looking for a colt who can take them to the promise land, jump on the website and check out our other lovely progeny bought this year.

And last but not least, bottom left, the infectious smile of Lauren Burke who is riding winners for fun at the moment. She brought up a double at Bairnsdale with a cracking ride on Our Silver Linings, who has now made it two wins a row for Matt Laurie and the team. Let's hope both Lauren and our gusty mare continue on their winning ways.

Capitalist colt is sold... but
15% remains in our Zousain colt!

Above - Lot 728 Colt by Zousain out of a More Than Ready mare!

We were rapt to secure Lot 728, this cracking colt from Inglis Classic Sale. This son of the exciting new stallion Zousain is everything we are hoping for when buying a colt. He is correct, perfect size, great attitude, very athletic, has a terrific pedigree, and to pick him up for only $50K... you should read on!

Zousain is the son of the amazing Zoustar. Zousain was a Group 2 winner himself and multiple Group 1 placed as a 2YO and 3YO. His first progeny were late to hit the track, forcing the price of his yearlings down as they went through the ring, with every owner wanting an early 2YO type. This was where we made our move and capitalised on value.

Lo and behold, since January when his first crop hit the track he has had 5 winners and a stakes placed getter from 9 runners, and all of those runners have run top 3 in their races. We swooped on this lovely colt and now you have the chance to get in at an entry level price for a horse we valued at around $90 - $100K.

The colt's dam is by legendary broodmare sire, More Than Ready, and she won twice over 1000m and ran fourth in a Group 3, so safe to say she had some ability. She has had two foals to the track and both have won between 1000m and 1300m. This cross of speed on speed doesn't guarantee us an earlier runner, but you only have to look at the page, his photo and video to see that he is in a hurry in everything he does.

Only 15% remaining and a cost of only $4,750 for 5% all inclusive.

Get onto Rob on 0448 462 824 to secure your share.

Off the track...
Get In The Queue enjoying retirement

We absolutely love this photo taken on the property of prominent RTD owner Tony Renkin at his Tallarook farm. In the background is the now retired Get In The Queue who was floated to Tony's farm  by Steve last week. It's fair to say that the big boy will enjoy the rest of his days under the care of Tony. It's another success story for RTD in ensuring our retired horses find the right home for their owners and we look forward to sharing lots of pics with Tony and Get In The Queue.

Last Week's Runners..

Tymon went around at Geelong on Friday in a 1500m maiden. From the wide barrier jockey Jack Hill was forced to go back. With a genuine speed, the race setup well but nothing was taking us into the race. We had to do all the hard work, making a long sustained run around every horse. It just told late as he peaked on his run 100m out and finished an encouraging fifth. He's not far away and when he draws a gate he will be hard to beat.

Suffolk Star also went around at Geelong in a 2200m maiden. He went well also and if he wasn't held up making a nice run up the inside at the 500m mark, he would have given the winner a real fright. Paul Preusker has him going well and with 2400m next start, look out.

Hedged went  to Sydney for the Gr2 Arrowfield Stud Stakes at Randwick on Saturday and he nearly cleaned them all up running an agonising second to Joliestar. He went super, they went crazy in front in this race and Damian Lane smoked the pipe third last in running. If we weren't held up for a stride rounding the turn, it could have been a very different outcome. The horse has pulled up well, returned to Melbourne and will contest some rich 3YO VOBIS races in the next month.

Presser made his return to the track at Bendigo on Saturday in a BM70 over 1300m. The run appeared a little disappointing on face value but we know he is a horse that improves with racing, and 1400m - 1600m is his pet distance. We will now step him up to 1400m second up and we are confident of a more forward showing from this honest galloper.

Last start winner Our Silver Linings went to Bairnsdale for a BM58 over 1000m and the brave mare did it again with another impressive victory. We have worked her out now, in that she likes to take a sit on good speeds and use that short sprint to her advantage, rather than being exposed by sitting on pace. Full credit to apprentice Lauren Burke on a super ride and well done to all her owners.

Keefy's Bro stepped out for his debut at Ballarat on Tuesday over 1000m but nothing went right for him. He jumped sideways when the barriers opened and was out the back early. The speed slackened dramatically and he got keen, then the speed went back on and he was left flat-footed. He did however work through the line ok and will get better over further. Stick with him he goes ok!

Copperfield goes around at Morphettville on Saturday at the parks track over 1550m and he has drawn in barrier 8 in a big field. He was a bit disappointing last time out but jockey Zac Spain was forgiving of him with the 200/1 shot eyeballing him for a period of the race. We do need to see some improvement from our bloke and let's hope he gets some luck at the right time.

Sacred Feeling is due for a win. She was disappointing last start but she doesnt help herself getting keen in the run and not finishing off her races. Similar race to last time, 1800m and barrier 6. Let's hope she drops the bit and travels sweetly and if she does that she will be winning.

On Sunday at the nursery of champions, Bendigo, we have Nova Lights engaged in a maiden over 1400m. This filly is knocking on the door and if she draws a gate where she can settle closer and use her finishing burst then she will be hard to beat. The big track will suit and team Freedman have been very happy with the filly since her unlucky third at Cranbourne.

Also at Bendigo on Sunday, we have Lacemaker going around in a BM64 over 1100m. She has drawn the outside but from the shoot at Bendigo it's one turn and not insurmountable to win from there. She is rock hard fit and ready to run well. If there is a bit of sting out of the ground with recent rain, then it certainly won't hurt her chances.

On Monday Tymon is off to Mildura for a 1400m maiden. He is going well this horse but he just hasn't drawn good barriers and had no luck in running. Let's hope he can draw well, as his trainer Toby Lake is keen on his chances with even luck. Liam Riordan will take the ride this time around and lets hope he can get the choccy's.

Also at Mildura on Monday we have Headlock stepping out to 1900m. He too has been going well and his run at Swan Hill last time out was solid enough to give him a good chance this time around. Lachie King will again take the ride and with luck in running we are expecting a very bold showing from the 4YO gelding.

Bear's Best Bets for the Weekend!

The big bear hit back again last week finding the very impressive Broadsiding as his best of the day at a very good price of $3 if you shopped early. His best each way of the day was Olentia and while she finished seventh, it was a good run and she is one to follow through the Sydney Carnival.

Rob's tipping in two states this weekend, firstly in Sydney for the final day of the carnival and then off to Mornington to follow a locally trained galloper for Matt Laurie.

Best of the day - Randwick - Race 8 no 9 Espiona - Found the best bet of the day, in the G1 All Aged Stakes. I have watched the replay a few times - Espiona should have won the G1 TJ Smith. The step up to 7 furlongs suits - 8 starts for 5 wins. Espiona just needs even luck to get the choccy's!  Best bet of the day! Win  @ $3.90

Each way - Mornington - Race 3 no 5 Ranveer -  Locally trained horses run well at Mornington. Ranveer has always shown above average ability. Has been sparingly raced of late however trialled up very well for this assignment on the home deck. From a low marble and E Brown in the saddle - there is a lot of ticks here and should be in the finish. Each way  @ $4.80 & $1.95

Good punting!
