We reached out to Kate Newton to check in to see how she is going with our stable favourite Southern Moon, aka ‘Goggles’. We were pleased to hear the pair have been kicking goals, and has some big targets to look forward to in the future. “We’ve done a lot of different things together, from going to pony club, bush rides, to leading the young horses around. We have attended shows and dressage competitions, with great success.” Explains Kate. “At his first dressage competition in an indoor arena at Tatura he came away with a second and a third. Following that at Shepparton show he won the Off The Track Lead Hunter Class which qualified him for the State Lead Class at Victorian Agricultural Show at the start of 2024.” What an achievement for the pair so early in their journey together. The pair have been together for almost one year and look to have a very bright future together, “We go to weekly dressage lesson where he is learning to use his body differently and to carry himself correctly. Goggles has been an absolute pleasure to have around, he takes everything in his stride and continues to improve every ride.” “I would like to qualify Goggles and I for some of the bigger shows in the future, for example Melbourne Royal or Barastoc. And I have always wanted to compete in the Garryowen, so maybe that is another thing we can work towards.” “At the moment Goggles is working towards becoming a clerk of the course for Racing Victoria. He has to complete 5 lots of official trials before he can be accredited to do the job on race day.” “I am very appreciative of Mitch and the connections of Southern Moon aka ‘Goggles’ for allowing me to have him in my care.” It gives us great pleasure and satisfaction to see one of our horses excelling in his career after racing, we look forward to watching the journey of Goggles and Kate. You’re doing an outstanding job Kate, we have no doubt the pair of you will kick goals! Freedman Honoured to win race in Memory of Dean Holland at Mt Gambier Unthinkable proved far too good in the 1800m Class 1 plate at Mt Gambier, which was run in memory of Dean Holland. With Holland’s, parents on track for the first time since his tragic fall, Freedman was thrilled to win the race and paid tribute to his friend. “To see Darren and Belinda on track and to share a moment with them was very special. It was pleasing to win in memory of Dean, who touched the lives of us all in the racing community, particularly at Ballarat.” Unthinkable pulled off a well-executed plan by the Freedman team to chase her second career victory. The daughter of Churchill is South-Australian bred was purchased at the Adelaide Magic Millions, meaning she was eligible for the Racing SA Rewards bonus scheme. With $10,000 in bonuses on offer, the Class 1 at Mt Gambier a very attractive option for the budding stayer. Freedman was able to cash in for her owners, Roll The Dice racing and connections. The Freedman team wish to pay their respects to the Holland family and privileged to win the race in his memory. Pakenham Pair Deliver Winning Double Tuscan Sun ridden by Jordan Childs wins the Dalton Consulting Engineers BM64 Handicap at Sportsbet Pakenham Synthetic track on June 02 Arctic Princess ridden by Luke Campbell wins the Bunyip Equipment Maiden Plate at Pakenham Synthetic track on June 02 Arctic Princess was an $8,000 purchase from the Magic Millions Tasmania sale in 2020 and has picked up some prizemoney in all her career starts, now providing her owners with their greatest thrill in the winning circle. There is arguably no horse in the stable that deserved a win more than this mare. She may be small in stature, but she has a true fighting spirit, giving her all in every start. A great ride by promising WA apprentice, Luke Campbell saw Arctic Princess weave through the field, diving through for her maiden win. Tuscan Sun made it two from two on the day with a gutsy effort stepping up to BM64 grade after his maiden win at Stawell. Statistically, it takes a special effort to win up in grade out of a maiden, yet Tuscan Sun was up the challenge, fighting off all rivals in a tough effort to win by a short half head. When asked about the future of the back-to-back winner, Freedman felt “he’s a horse with good upside, he raced more truly today, went a lot straighter today and he is out of a really good stakes-class mare (Tuscan Sling) so he might be ready to turn the corner.” Since its renovation, the Pakenham Polytrack has been a happy-hunting ground for Freedman. Whilst a long trip across the city, Freedman’s strike rate at the course is outstanding, with three winners from only five runners. The winning double was a fantastic day for the Mitch and the stable. “The team are doing a great job to present the horses for the races in good order and it’s great to get some reward for their hard work.” The winter period coming up is an exciting time for the stable, with yearlings having their first preparations, promising un-raced horses furthering their education at the jump outs and heading to the races, along with the spring carnival horses now in full training. In our monthly update with Mitch is a must watch – he labelled Arctic Princess as the one to follow in June and she truly delivered! Make sure you keep up to date with all stable news and check out the horses that are available to join our winning team. Offered in-house first, don't miss out! We are very excited to offer you the opportunity to race a lease filly by one of Mitch's favourite sires, Puissance De Lune!
Lot 1740 Magic Millions 2023
Puissance De Lune is the sire of some of Mitch's stakes performers, including Moonlight Maid, Southern Moon and Spirit of Gaylard. This filly is from a family that we are familiar with, her dam (Teodora) is a half sister to So Devine, the dam of the Churchill filly that Mitch purchased at Melbourne Premier earlier this year. We feel it is a family which is ready to explode with great updates in the next 2-3 years.
So Devine has produced four foals to race thus far Deific – Multiple place getter in training with Symon Wilde, a win looks not too far away. Devine Command – Multiple city winner, winning over $100,000 in stake from 19 starts. Re Edit - Multiple winner and stakes placed, with a foal by Snitzel on the ground and another positive pregnancy scan to Snitzel. One to follow in upcoming sales! Teodora (dam of this filly) - a multiple city winner and stakes placed as a 3yo. This Puissance De Lune filly is her first foal.
As a lease, there are no upfront costs to get involved. Billing will commence from when she arrives at the breakers. There is a 75%/25% split on the prize money per share - should you take a 10% share, you will pay for that 10% share and receive 7.5% in prize money accumulated.
