The Late Mail...

Around the traps...

Above - The RTD team had a cracking week at The Bool, check out the class of 2024 Booligan's above.

The first week in May is always dominated by the famous Warrnambool Carnival. It's a unique carnival as it mixes jumps and flat racing, attracting the die hard jumps racing fans along with Australia's top trainers and jockeys with the increase in race programming and prize money. Everyone wants a runner and everyone wants to win a race down there.

The usual crew of RTD Booligans again descended on the picturesque sea side town of Warrnambool and as always, had a great time. The week included: 3 runners for RTD on Wednesday and Thursday; getting up early and experiencing how horses are trained on the beach; 3 action packed days of jumps and flat racing; and plenty of socialising with racing industry participants. In short the trip is not for the sprinters, it's for the stayers and if you go out too hard too early, you aren't going to make it.  All in all it was a great trip and if you haven't done it yet, put it on the bucket list of things to do before you know what....

Closer to home we had 7 runners last week, again with one winner but it could have been more. Well done to connections of Suffolk Star, our international who just keeps improving each time he goes to the races. He is a real stayer who will make an even better jumper in time, and Warrnambool might be on the cards for him next year.  All other runners went well and we feel we are knocking on the door for a couple of winners over the next couple of weeks.

Don't forget about our hidden gems...

Above - (top left to right clockwise), Anjana $32K, Twitchy Frank $10K, Mahuta $35K, Artie Dee Two $55K and
La Falaise $28K, all stakes and or city class winners under $60K purchase price

We ran this story last week, but incase some of you missed it, we're running it again...

You may have been watching on in recent weeks wishing you could get involved in some of our higher priced horses, but let us tell you this: you don’t need to spend a fortune to get a good horse, you just need to know what you’re looking for. We have literally built our business on finding top quality horses at bargain prices.

Horses such as…Mahuta ($35K), Anjana ($32K), Artie Dee Two ($55K), Twitchy Frank ($10K), La Falaise ($28K) all stakes and/or city winners.

Just last year our lower priced graduates from 2023 including: Peace Treaty ($55K), Red Rowie ($26K) and Crown Waters ($80K) have all won races, and Peace Treaty has already amassed $194K in prizemoney.

Our last 4 out of 7 winners were also purchased for under $100K: Nova Lights ($65K), Our Silver Linings ($80K), Unthinkable ($30K), Snow Boum ($26K).

So don't think you need to spend a fortune to enjoy the spoils as an owner. You just need to know what you're looking for...or know someone else who does.

Everybody loves the rags to riches story and wants to know the secret of how it's done. This is how it's done...

We employ two of the best bloodstock agents in Australia to find the right horses, and then we let them do their job. Every horse that makes our short list then undergoes a thorough vet examination. Regardless of whether we pay $30K or $300K, we follow the same process. We engage professionals with over 40 years experience.

We find you top quality horses without the trendy page, name, or price tag. We bring you the best horses without all the hype. Each week (until SOLD OUT!) we're going to be featuring one of our top quality horses purchased at a bargain price. Be warned, it's first in, best dressed. Don't take too long to think about it or you risk missing out!

Look at her! She is a princess and will blossom into a queen!

If you're a John Foote lover?
This filly is exactly how he likes them!

Above - have a look at this filly...she looks like she is ready to go as a yearling, she's an absolute cracker!

This is the nicest filly in Magic Millions Book 2 and by a sire that RTD and Mitch Freedman love. Churchill is an underrated sire in Australia but taking all before him in Europe, he's the son of the great Galileo. Churchill's stock have produced numerous group winners in the UK, and here in Australia Mitch won the Gr.1 Toorak Handicap with Attrition who is by Churchill, in the Spring. Our bloodstock agent, John Foote also loves the Churchill's and this filly ticked all the boxes. She has size, strength and is a beautiful mover!

Her pedigree is also enviable being out of a black type winning Commands mare who has had 6 winners from 7 to race, including two stakes winners. Being an August foal this filly won't run in the early 2YO races, but she won't take for ever either. We expect her to be a late 2YO and she'll most certainly train on as a 3YO. We think she will suit Mitch Freedman’s training style perfectly as she should be a real sprinter/miler in time.

With only 4 shares available in this exciting filly at $8,125 for 5%, she won't last long!

Get onto Rob ASAP to secure your share: 0448 462 824.

Last Week's Runners..

A Blue Star was disappointing at Ararat last Friday, and unfortunately he is limited with his ability, so the decision has been made to retire him. The team will ensure he is rehomed to appropriate owners, including retraining and re-educating him to ensure a smooth transition.

Suffolk Star  went around at Kyneton on Saturday in a BM 58 over 2847m and went great to salute comfortably by a length. It was a great effort as winning a BM58 before a maiden is hard to do and clearly the further the races go, the better he gets. He is a typical European stayer who we think has a bright future over 3000m+ and jockey Tom Madden agreed as he was really strong through the line. He’s been a long term project and we are going to have fun with him on the flat and over the jumps.

Hedged went to Caulfield on Saturday in the 1200m 3YO Vobis Gold Dash and finished 3rd. On face value he was disappointing considering his huge run in Sydney the start before. He just raced a bit tired and certainly didn’t appreciate the firm track. We are working him out race by race and feel that spacing his runs, keeping him fresh and the sting out of the ground is the secret to his success. He will go to Brisbane next to finish off his 3YO year and will spell up there in preparation for Magic Millions races in January.

Tietar went to Ballarat Sunday in a 1500m maiden and finished 4th. It also looked a little disappointing but she did get held up at a crucial stage in the straight and finished off ok. She is a filly by Almanzor who will get better the further she goes and we will look to stretch her out to 1600m next start on the way to 2000m+. She’s a nice filly so stick with her and she will be going close next start.

Keefy's Bro went around on Wednesday at Warrnambool in a 1400m Maiden and was really good finishing 5th beaten 3 lengths. He sat on a good speed and looked like he was going to run right up to the leaders, but the jump to 1400m second up just told late and he whacked away the final 100m. All in all we were really happy with the run and he will be hard to beat next time out over 1400m.

Presser also went around at The Bool Wednesday in a 1400m / BM70 and he went well considering he was never really in the race. Settling well back and trying to come into the race at the 600m he found trouble wherever he went as he tried to come up the fence where the going was best. Unfortunately, every angle we took was the wrong one and when finally clear he hit the line well. He is now back on track and will be hard to beat wherever he goes next.

The final day at Warrnambool saw Unthinkable line up after a short break in a 1400m BM70 fillies and mares race. Trainer, Mitch Freedman used the race as a kick off point for the daughter of Churchill and from the wide gate we didn't ask her to do too much. She will benefit from the run and be a lot more competitive second up on speed over 1600m next time.

This Week's Runners ...

Crux is ready to go first up at Horsham on Saturday in a BM58 over 1800m. He has been schooling over the jumps and going really well. If we can get some rain and a bit of luck he can definitely be running in the money with Dean Yendall on board, using the good barrier and sitting midfield with cover.

On Monday at Werribee we have our in form mare Our Silver Linings going to the BM58 over 1000m. She looks well placed here with apprentice Laura Burke again taking the ride and getting a claim. If she can possie up behind the leaders again like she did last start and have one last crack at them we think she can win or be very hard to beat at least.

Also on Monday we will see Lacemaker go around in a BM64 for fillies and mares over 1100m and she is knocking on the door for a win. She was great at Bendigo last start and from all reports was only beaten by a smart one. With a decent barrier and luck in running we are expecting a bold showing from our girl.

We are excited to see Nova Lights go back to the track after her very impressive maiden win at Bendigo a couple of weeks ago. She goes to Sandown on Wednesday in a BM64 for fillies and mares where we hope she measure up to city grade. Team Freedman are happy with the filly's progress this week and we are hoping she draws a gate and goes forward like she did at Bendigo.

We have made the decision to take Sacred Feeling back a step to midweek grade to try and get her a win and some confidence back. She has become a little frustrating for her owners and costly for punters as she looks like she is going to win races but won't run past them. She goes back to Eagle Farm over 1800m on Wednesday and we hope she can deliver the killer punch and get a win.

Bear's Best Bets for the Weekend!

It was a case of so close but so far for the big bear this week. His best of the day Modown went down a length and ran second and his best each way of the day Brooklyn Boss ran fourth at double figure odds, ensuring no return from two very good runs and good tips that just missed. He is seeing them well the big bear and all he needs is a bit of luck this week and he will tip the house down!

Let's see where he ends up this week?

Best of the day - Caulfield  - Race 2 No 1 Mawallock Found the best bet of the day, early in the day in race 2. Lindsey Smith must have resisted the temptation of running Mawallock during the local Warrnambool carnival & saved it for Saturday instead. 5 starts for 4 wins- the daughter of Trust In A Gust is a very good horse! Clear standout and will be hard to beat!
Best bet of the day! Win @ $1.80

Each way - Caulfield
Race 3 No 6 Matthew -  Mathew is a very progressive staying gelded son of Tavistock who has a sharp turn of foot. P Payne stable is on fire lately & I think over 1700m, Mathew will be ready to fire first start & will be in the finish. Each way @ $8.50 & $2.70

Good punting!
