The Late Mail...

Around the traps...

Wow, how quick is the year flying by with Easter weekend already upon us?! It's a great time of year to get away for a couple of days and spend time with family, it's also a great time for racing with the Sydney Easter Carnival in full swing. What better way to combine the two than with a weekend away in Sydney, staying in the city, and heading off to Randwick for the Championships. Let's hope we can see a couple of Roll the Dice horses go well in Melbourne over the next couple of weeks and we might all be up there cheering on the RTD colours.

Another reminder about the Inglis Easter Sale which is on 7th - 8th April. It's Australia's best sale in terms of quality yearlings with the best pedigrees. We will be in the market with our bloodstock agents Jeremy Rogers and John Foote along with our high profile trainers in looking for that stallion prospect. While we have shopped well so far this year, we will need to stretch our budget to find something in Sydney. There is still value in the upper price bracket though, and we will be doing the work on the ground. If anything slips through the net we will be there to pounce. Get in touch with the team if you are keen to get your hands on a quality colt or filly.

Looking for a filly to run in the 3YO classics? This Contributer is the one!

Above - smashing Contributer filly purchased at NZB yearling sale in January.

Lot 780 from the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale is a lovely athletic filly by Contributer, a sire who is really starting to hit his straps. His progeny that are running in big races during the Autumn include Campionessa and Snow Patrol. He has already produced 9 stakes winners in total and two Gr.1 winners including Campionessa and Lions Roar for John O'Shea in Sydney.

This filly was an absolute bargain and Jeremy Rogers loved her as did the Freedmans and we just had to have her. She is good sized, well balanced with a lovely walk. A nice 3YO Spring type to target the Spring riches. Although bred to appreciate 2000m plus, she looks quite a sharp filly and might come to hand a bit quicker.

Only 25% remaining and a cost of only $5,376 for 5%.

Last Week's Runners...

Headlock went to Benalla last Saturday in a BM58 over 1406m. He was tucked in around the big field for the majority of the race and didn't appear to love it. Coming to the straight the gaps opened for him and he worked to the line well to finish 5th beaten under two lengths. Toby Lake is keen to see him at 1600m now and we hope he can find that win we have been looking for.

Copperfield went around in a  BM64 over 1200m in Adelaide on Saturday and again it was a very encouraging run. He was beaten for speed early and worked into the race nicely to finish 6th beaten a few lengths. He is now ready to step up to his favourite 1400m and David Jolly will look for a race for him in the next couple of weeks.

On Sunday, Willmott went around in a BM64 over 1600m and it was too bad to be true. Jockey, Ethan Brown commented that he travelled great throughout the race and coming to the turn he just completely lost his action. Trainer, Archie Alexander is going over him thoroughly to see if there are any issues, otherwise it might be time for a spell and a reset.

On Tuesday Tymon went around in a maiden over 1330m and he went quite well finishing 3rd. He sat behind a hot speed and coming to the turn he looked a chance. He got left flat-footed by the hot favourite but worked to the line well enough to warrant stepping him up to 1400m next time out and hopefully a win is not far away.

This Week's Runners..

Our Silver Linings goes around on Saturday at Warracknabeal over 1000m with Linda Meech in the saddle. She has drawn perfect in barrier 2 and we will be using the gate to be positive on a track that tends to favour the front runners and we hope that Saturday is her day.

On Saturday we will see Hedged go around again at HQ, this time in the $500K Sunlight Stakes over 1100m down the famous straight. His first up run was full of merit where he won three weeks ago at the same track and distance. This time he faces a lot stronger field but he has improved and we cant wait to test him against top quality 3YO opposition.

Nova Lights goes around at Pakenham on Thursday and she went really well first up a few weeks ago at Geelong. She was only first up but made a stack of ground coming from the rear of the field. She will appreciate the big track next week and we think she will be hard to beat with natural improvement from her first up outing.

Also on Thursday night we will see the return to the track of Lacemaker. She has trialled very well in her lead up to her return and she will go around in a 1000m Class 1 where we expect her to be very competitive. The Price/Kent team are happy with her progress after coming down from Trevenson Park ans she is forward enough to run a good race first up.

Bear's Best Bets for the Weekend!

Another solid performance from the bear tipping in Sydney last week. His Best of the day was Schwarz who went very close in the Derby Munro finishing second and his best each way Cap Ferat ran a bottler to run third at a nice each way price. The big fella is starting to see winners like watermelons again so watch out this week as he tips up another storm.

Good punting!

Amazing day of racing with G1 races in both Melbourne and Sydney.

One of the features is the G1 Vinery Stud Stakes; the clash between Orchestral (NZ)and Zardozi - UK bred in southern hemisphere time - so we can claim her as Aussie  lol). For the record -  Zardozi for me - happy punting all !!

Will be sticking with Rosehill for both selections this week.

Best of the day - Rosehill - Race 3 no 6 Linebacker - I found the best bet of the day, with the John O’Shea yard. Linebacker is a smart colt by emerging stallion; Super Seth who stands at Waikato Stud in NZ. He absolutely bolted in on debut in February beating a horse called Bosustow.  Bosustow has franked that form by placing behind Traffic Warden this prep, who subsuquently ran 4th in the G1 Golden Slipper. Linebacker has trialled up nicely winning in 2nd gear & from Barrier 1 - I think instructions to T Berry are simple - ‘JLW’ jump lead win. Load up !! Best bet of the day. Win @ $2

Each way - Rosehill - Race 8 no 4 More Felons - Best each way value bet is in the Group 1 Tancred stakes. This is not a vintage edition of this race, so I think there is only a few chances. More Felons is a UK bred horse - Churchill out of a pivotal mare. First preparation here during Spring and ran well in the Geelong Cup which ties in Ashrun ( the other hope in the race at $11 - Quinny ?) and was okay in the Melbourne Cup without threatening. First up this time in, it was a big win - coming from the rear of the field winning with a leg in the air! JMac on piloting duties with barrier 2, there is a lot to like. Each way all day. Each way @ $11 & $2.80
