The Late Mail...

Around the traps...

Above - The famous Warrnambool carnival is on again next week and RTD will be right in thick of it!

It's that time of year again..The Bool is calling...with Warrnambool's famous three day carnival on next week, starting on Tuesday and finishing on Thursday. The famous carnival incorporates some great flat racing including the Warrnambool Cup and Wangoom Handicap as well as the magic that is jumps racing, with the Brierly Chase, The Galleywood Hurdle and the Grand Annual Steeple on the last day.

Thousands of racing diehards make the pilgrimage every year to brave the elements and watch these amazing equines perform over various disciplines. If you haven't experienced it before it's a must do for every racing fan. Rob and a group of RTD owners are again making the trip and at this stage it looks like we'll have 3 runners over the carnival, with one on each day.

Last week was busy with 7 runners across the country, one winner being the impressive Nova Lights, coupled with 2 placings and some just missing the money. This week is even bigger with 9 runners across the country, so good luck to all of our owners with a runner!

Regardless of whether we pay $30K or $300K, we follow the same process. We engage professionals with over 40 years experience.

Exceedance colt from Magic Millions

Above - Lot 1090 Colt by Exceedance out of a Shamardal mare

This colt is an absolute prototype of the success we have had to date. He could be the bargain of the Magic Millions sale, Lot 1090, a cracking Exceedance colt out of a Shamardal mare. He has all the attributes we look for when selecting our yearlings. Bloodstock agent, Jeremy Rogers thought he was the nicest colt in Book 2 at Magic Millions and there is so much room for development with him being a November foal. He has a great constitution, walks like a panther (see video below), and nothing phases him. He has an amazing attitude and is a real dude according to Jeremy.

At the princely sum of $55K purchase price, this is right in Jeremy’s wheelhouse of finding that absolute diamond in the rough. This colt has been educated and will head to Anthony and Sam Freedman shortly to continue his education.

Only 45% up for grabs at $4,497 for 5%.

Last Week's Runners..

Copperfield went around at Morphettville on Saturday at the parks track over 1550m and he was ridden against all instructions. We were very clear to ride him quiet but the jockey decided to push on and take on the leader which was frustrating. In saying that the leader won the race and he was disappointing. We will now look to move him on and look for a career after racing for him.

Sacred Feeling went around in a BM68 over, 1800m and again she just lacked that killer punch. She was stuck in the worst going on the fence rounding the turn and despite running up to the leaders and looking like the winner she again peaked on her run and finished a close third. We know she has ability but shes not ticking off the win like we had hoped. Over to Tony Gollan to weave his magic and get this girl a win shortly.

On Sunday at Bendigo, we had Nova Lights finally break her maiden over 1400m for a very impressive win by over 6 lengths. She led from the inside barrier and jockey Luke Currie controlled the race from the front. Coming aroudn the turn Luke pressed the button and she responded nicely to clear away from her opposition. She will now head to a BM64 midweek race in a couple of weeks and lets hope she can cntinue on her merry way.

Also at Bendigo on Sunday, we had Lacemaker go around in a BM64 over 1100m. She ran a very good second and was only beaten by a smart one on the day who came off her back to win nicely. We ran away from third so there is a win in our mare shortly and she is going very well for the Price/Kent team at the moment.Stick with her next time.

On Monday Tymon went to Mildura for a 1400m maiden. He was disappointing actually after having every chance and we just dont see a way forward for him and the ownership group. He will be presented a the online sales and we will ensure that he finds the right home, whether that be interstate in an easier jurisdiction or a family pet,

Also at Mildura on Monday we had Headlock stepping out to 1900m. Again, he was disappointing and we have decided to pull the pin on his racing career and the RTD team will also find him a good home in retirement.

On Anzac Day we saw Peace Treaty go around at Flemington and she was again disappointing. This prep nothing has gone right for the 3YO filly and we might just pull the pin and give her a nice spell over the winter and bring her back for the spring. She is better than what she showed yesterday.

This Week's Runners...

A Blue Star will go around today despite the car park barrier draw. He really needs to go around and he is ready to go. From the barrier we will look to be positive and hopefully find a spot in transit. Coming off a small issue and a few weeks off we are hoping for a good run and expect he will improve with whatever he does today.

Suffolk Star will go around on Sasturday at Kyneton over 2800m in a BM58. His run at Geelong a fortnight ago was good finishing second and he has improeved a lot at home for trainer, Paul Preusker. With some luck in running he should be going pretty close.

After a super run in Sydney 2 weeks ago, finishing second in the Gr 2 Arrowfield Hedged lines up at Caulfield on Saturday in the Vobis Gold Dash over 1200m. His form has been excellent this prep and he will be very hard to beat on the weekend from the good barrier and Ethan Brown takes the ride.

Tietar makes her return to the track after a long lay off at Ballarat on Sunday. She is a filly we have had a lot of time for and she is forward enough to run really well first up.
She will obviously imrpove with racing and we are keen to see her out to 2000m+ this prep.

Our inform mare, Our Silver Linings is going around on Monday at Mornington over 1000m. She is in great form, winning her last two races and this assignment looks tougher. Nevertheless, she deserves her chance to step up and lets hope she can continue on her merry ways again.

The famous Warrnambool carnival starts on Tuesday and we are well represented over the three days, firstly Keefy's Bro will go around in a maiden over 1200m. His first up run was good and nothing went right. He is fitter now and the 1200m will suit and we think he is a nice each way chance in an open race.

Presser flies the flag on day two, a BM70 over 1400m at Warrnambool Wednesday. He is fitter after his first up run at Bendigo and we are hoping to see some sting out of the ground for him as we know he can get through it okay.

The final day at Warrnambool will see Unthinkable line up after a short break in a 1400m BM70 F&M race. Its a nice kick off point for her but we have seen her best is 2nd and 3rd up over 1600m and a bit further. She too would appreciate some cut in the ground.

Bear's Best Bets for the Weekend!

Tough day at the office for all punters last week with the weather again playing havoc in Sydney and the poor Randwick track was bottomless. Rob's best of the day was Espiona and she ran ordinary through the very heavy conditions. His best each way of the day was at Mornington and Ranveer could only manage a fourth.

Let's see where he ends up this week?

Best of the day - Caulfield  - Race 6 no 2 Modown - Found the best bet of the day, in the rich Vobis Platinum Guineas worth $500k for 3yos over a mile. Modown is a gelded son of Toronado, who has been wonderful stallion for the team at Sweatenham. He is a very good horse and from horror draw last start ( barrier 19)  had to go back however charged late to place in the Bendigo Guineas over 7 furlongs. The step up to a mile is ideal & looks well placed at the set weight conditions. Jack Hill is in the saddle & he is an under- rated jockey who doesn’t come to town often but can get the job done. For the memory buffs - a great steer on the Scottish Dancer at this track. Win  @ $3.00

Each way - Caulfield - Race 2 no 9 Brooklyn Boss -  I have found a place bet early in the day so we can build bank in race 2. Brooklyn Boss is a consistent galloper and from barrier 2 will give plenty of cheek on Saturday. Last start, Brooklyn Boss over 1800m, finished 2nd  by only a nose  & early in his career - he placed behind Globe at Sandown. Place  @ $3.10

Good punting!
