The Late Mail...

Around the traps...

Above - The beautiful surrounds of the Freedman Racing Team at Pinecliff on the Mornington Peninsula will be the location for this years RTD open day, see below for details.

We weren't sure if it's a race programming thing or just fate, but it was an uncharacteristically quiet week for the team last week with only the one runner in Queensland, Barbaric Lad, who went great first up on a heavy track. He is on target for the rich 2YO race series in the Gr2 BRC Sires Produce in 2 weeks and hopefully the Gr1 JJ Atkins a few weeks later.

This week we are back with up to seven runners all over Victoria and we are hoping that there are a few winners amongst the group. The team have been busy off the track with admin duties and it's that time of year when we can all be creative and get a bit playful with naming of racehorses. This can be a thankless task though as one person's gem is not necessarily shared by the rest of the ownership group. It's a great chance to have some fun with the naming process just as long as you don't make it too hard for the poor old race caller who has to pronounce the name! Anyway, we love seeing the theories behind the naming, and if you're not sure where to start, google and even ChatGPT or some AI software can give you some great ideas in the process.

On another note we have set a date for this years open day. Monday 10th June is the King's Birthday and we have organised with Sam Freedman for a morning at their beautiful Pinecliffe stables at Mornington. See below article for all the details!

If you're ever gonna have a crack...

Above - This colt is ready to go!

If you're ever gonna have a crack, surely it's on a $50K colt that could be a stallion. A colt who's got not just the pedigree and constitution, but is ready to go, right now. We can't believe there's still shares available in this guy.

This colt is everything we hope for when buying a colt: correct, perfect size, great attitude, athletic, and with a terrific pedigree. At $50K purchase price, you'd be crazy not to at least have a dip.

All the hard work has already been done and he is thriving. Educated and spelling and ready to come into work, he's by boom young stallion, Zousain, and out of gun broodmare sire in More Than Ready.

Son of the amazing Zoustar, Zousain was a Group 2 winner and multiple Group 1 placed as a 2YO and 3YO. Since January when his first crop hit the track he has had 5 winners and a stakes placed getter from 9 runners, and all of those runners have run top 3 in their races.

The colt's dam is by legendary broodmare sire, More Than Ready, and she won twice over 1000m and ran fourth in a Group 3. She has had two foals to the track and both have won between 1000m and 1300m.

Jez loves this colt.

We love this colt.

He's a running type, a real sprinter miler, who's ready to go right now. A colt that could be a stallion. At $50K purchase price, you'd be crazy not to at least have a dip. He's as good a chance as any.

If you're ever gonna have a crack, this is the one.

Only 10% remaining and a cost of only $4,750 for 5% all inclusive.

Get onto Rob ASAP to secure your share: 0448 462 824.

Last Week's Runners..

On Saturday at the Sunshine Coast we had 2YO colt Barbaric Lad going around in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic over 1200m. Anthony Freedman is in QLD with the colt and he is very happy with him going into Saturday, but from barrier 1 we will be going back and looking for some luck. He may find the 1200m too short as we aim for races over further in the coming weeks.

This Week's Runners...

It's super Sunday this weekend with 4 runners. Tietar is going around in a 1744m maiden at Sale and from the sounds of things from the Price/Kent stable she is ready to go. Second up and the ideal track and long straight are the big ticks. She has drawn wide but providing there's speed in the race Tom Stockdale can have her finishing strongly down the outside late.

Our Silver Linings is also going around at Sale on Sunday in a BM58 over 1000m. She has been terrific this prep winning two races and this  looks a nice race for her again. Trainer Matt Laurie is happy with the mare and we have again booked the services of Lauren Burke. Win lose or draw Matt thinks she could do with a break after this run.

Crux is off to the second Sunday meeting, Casterton and going around in a BM58 over 2000m. His first up run at Horsham was a beauty, and with some luck in running he will be hard to beat if we can get some sting out of the ground and draw a reasonable barrier. Paul Preusker is happy with the gelding and we think he will be very competitive on the weekend.

Mahrez will cap off the busy Sunday across the state with his first up assignment off a long spell at Casterton over 1400m in a BM64. He is a talented horse that Lindsey Smith has taken time to work out. He had a small virus a few weeks ago that slowed him down for a few days and again we are hoping the track stays soft to increase his chances.

Lacemaker will line up at Ballarat on Tuesday in an 1100m F&M BM58. While her run last start at Werribee looked disappointing, she was in the wrong part of the track and the jockey reported that she just didn't feel comfortable. She will go back to the syntho where she has won before and it looks a nice race for her and she will be very hard to beat.

Keefy's Bro will also go around at Ballarat Synthetic in a maiden over 1500m. This horse is going really well and the Maddie Raymond camp have a nice opinion of this bloke. He's learning on the job with racing and he is close to putting it all together. Let's hope it's Tuesday for all concerned as we would love a win and then send him to the paddock for a nice break.

Unthinkable will bowl around on Wednesday at  Bendigo in a BM70 Vobis race over 1600m which looks ideal for her. Unfortunately the unseasonable lack of rain may be her biggest issue in that she really needs sting out of the ground to produce her best. Having said that she has won at The Valley on dry and needs to run, the bonuses are too good to pass up.

Presser will go around on Wednesday in a BM70 over 1600m at Warwick Farm for his new trainer Matthew Smith in Sydney. Again, with the warm weather we felt a change of scenery might help him as he just needs sting out of the ground and we've had no rain. With wet tracks all over the place up in NSW we think he will be ready to improve sharply.

Bear's Best Bets for the Weekend!

The big fella was back with a bang last week getting his best of the day up and his best each way running a place. Good job bear!

Lets see how he goes this week.

Best of the day - Doomben  - Race 8 no 1 I Wish I Win  I have found the best bet of day in Group 1 Doomben 10,000. I Wish I Win is second up today after a solid first up performance finishing 3rd beaten only 0.3l on a heavy deck in the TJ Smith G1 at Royal Randwick.  I think he needed the run first up, so he will strip much fitter on Saturday for this assignment. Jmac in the saddle & from barrier 1, he will be camping just behind the speed. Watch when the gaps open up in the straight,  I Wish I Win will be too strong & finish over the top of them.  I Wish I Win is the best bet of the day ! Win  @ $2

Each Way - Flemington - Race 8 no 3 Excelleration Found some value in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes 2800m at Flemington.   A guaranteed start in Melbourne Cup 2024 is on offer for the winner, this is a fantastic initiative by VRC for some our home grown staying talent.   Going with a fellow jumps jockey turned trainer, last week G Bedgood this week R Cully.  Excelleration - a lightly raced 7yo gelded son of Excelebration (who was $6,000 purchase from Magic Millions Adelaide yearling sale).  Excelleration shows a natural turn of foot & a stayer of immense promise, his record speaks for itself; 17 starts for 7 wins & a further 7 placings.   Cully has placed this horse perfectly last two starts, with a resounding win in the G3 Launceston Cup & then stepped up to the 2 miles in the G2 Adelaide Cup & won again beating The Map who is the fave for this race on Saturday.  The Map has a weight advantage and is an obvious danger but I am sticking with Excelleration at the double figure price. H Coffey is an underrated jockey in Melb jockey room & has ridden Excelleration perfectly at this past two starts. Each way all day ! Each way  @ $9.50 & $3.00

Good punting!
