Around the traps...

Above - Our Silver Linings breaking her maiden in front of a big crowd at Warracknabeal on Easter Saturday

We hope everyone had a great Easter break and enjoyed some time off with family and friends. It was great to get a winner for the owners of Our Silver Linings at Warracknabeal on Saturday. She broke a run 21 days without a winner and we had good performances from Hedged in the Sunlight Classic and Lacemaker who returned from a spell with an encouraging fourth.

Plenty happening on the track with runners all over the country this weekend including some really nice chances in Melbourne with Globe and Peace Treaty, Copperfield in Adelaide and Sacred Feeling in Brisbane. Let's hope there are some winners from that group by the end of the weekend.

All eyes will be on the weather in Sydney this weekend for the first day of The Championships at Royal Randwick with 4 Gr1 races. With over 200mm of rain predicted in the next 48 hours, the chances of the races being postponed are rising if the predicted rain arrives, especially on raceday. Let's hope the rain stays away and we see a cracking raceday.

Finally the Inglis Easter Sale is ready to kick off on Sunday. If anyone is interested in buying Winx's daughter by Pierro you better have plenty of bullets to fire. She is expected to be very popular and has already attracted international interest. In all seriousness, we will be on the ground with our bloodstock agents and trainers looking for a quality colt or filly, so get in touch to register your interest.

Looking for a filly to run in the 3YO classics? This Contributer is the one!

Above - smashing Contributer filly purchased at NZB yearling sale in January.

Lot 780 from the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale is a lovely athletic filly by Contributer, a sire who is really starting to hit his straps. His progeny that are running in big races during the Autumn include Campionessa and Snow Patrol. He has already produced 9 stakes winners in total and two Gr.1 winners including Campionessa and Lions Roar for John O'Shea in Sydney.

This filly was an absolute bargain and Jeremy Rogers loved her as did the Freedmans, and we just had to have her. She is good sized and well balanced with a lovely walk. A nice 3YO Spring type to target the Spring riches. Although bred to appreciate 2000m plus, she looks quite a sharp filly and might come to hand a bit quicker.

Only 15% remaining and a cost of only $5,376 for 5%.

Last Week's Runners..

Our Silver Linings broke her maiden impressively on Saturday at Warracknabeal over 1000m. Linda Meech rode the mare perfectly to sit off the hot speed early. Coming to the turn Linda pressed the button and the mare let down nicely to run away and win by a length. She is getting closer to a spell but trainer Matt Laurie may have one more run before she has a break.

On Saturday we saw Hedged go around in the Sunlight Stakes over 1100m. It was a messy race and the horse jumped awkwardly from the barriers and landed in the wrong spot, which was cluttered up for majority of the race. He never saw clear air, and if he did, we thought he would have finished a couple of lengths closer. It was still a good run and we will look at another race for him shortly, either Sydney or Bendigo in a fortnight.

On Thursday night we saw the return to the track of Lacemaker. She went around in a very strong Class 1 first up and she ran a nice race to finish 4th beaten a couple of lengths. It was a good performance first up as we knew she would improve a lot from that run and she just got tired late. We will look for a similar race in a couple of weeks and she will be hard to beat.

This Week's Runners...

Nova Lights is heading to Cranbourne Friday night in a 1200m 3YO fillies' maiden.  She was scratched earlier in the week due to the heavy conditions and us not knowing how she will handle the track. This race looks a little harder but an improving soft track should be in her favour and we think she has a nice each way chance with Ethan Brown in the saddle.

On Saturday we see the return to the track of Globe. He will go around in the Gr 3 Victoria Handicap and be up against a cracking field for this time of year, with the likes of Buffalo River and Attrition lining up. Globe is a super talent and we are looking to see if he is back on track after a horror first up run in the spring. Let's hope he is back to his best on raceday and we see him showing up against some quality opposition.

Also on Saturday, we will see Peace Treaty go around at Caulfield, this time in a 3YO fillies' race over 1200m. She was in season last start at Caulfield and performed poorly as a result. We know she's much better than that and her work with a crossover nose band has been excellent and we expect a much better showing from her on Saturday.

In Queensland on Saturday, Sacred Feeling will take her place in an 1800m Class 3 at Eagle Farm. She is now third up and is fit and ready to rumble on the bigger track with what appears to be more speed in the race than previously. It's a big field, and she has drawn nicely to get back with cover and hopefully finish over the top of her opposition and get a win she has been looking for.

While in Adelaide on Saturday, Copperfield will go around in a BM66 over 1550m. He is finally up to his favoured distance, and from barrier 1 and with no speed in the race, we can go forward and dictate terms. With gun Victorian jockey, Zac Spain in the saddle he looks to have a very good chance of saluting for his new trainer, David Jolly.

Tymon is set to go around in a maiden at Swan Hill over 1300m next Tuesday. He is now rock hard fit and third up and the Toby Lake Racing team are expecting a forward showing from the 3YO son of Rubick. His second up run at Geelong was good a couple of weeks ago and we are expecting him to go close this time out.

Also at Swan Hill on Tuesday we will see Headlock ready to rumble in a BM58 over 1600m. Trainer, Toby Lake thinks that the gelding is now ready for the mile and this looks like a good assignment for him. Let's hope the barrier gods are playing nicely and we can draw well and get some luck in running.

Bear's Best Bets for the Weekend!

The big bear is in very good form and Sin City (Sydney) has been good to him in recent weeks. His best of the day last week was Linebacker and he won with a leg in the air and his best each way More Felons was honest in the Tancred and finished a close second at a nice price.

This weekend it's flippers and floaties in Sydney or back to Melbourne for autumn racing. Let's hope the big fella can keep his run of winners going no matter where he decides to have a bet.

Good punting!

Best of the day - Randwick - Race 8 no 18 Another Wil - Has won his last 3 races in 2nd gear. The 4yo gelded son of Street Boss will peak this Saturday in the Gr1 Doncaster and there are three big ticks - J Kah piloting, only 50kg and has won on heavy ground. Street Boss is an under rated stallion producing Anamoe. Barrier 20 holds no fear as the rail will deteriorate throughout the day and winners will be coming down the middle of track looking for fresh ground. Best bet of the day. Win @ $3.70

Each way - Randwick - Race 2 no 2 Stockman - I have found some value in the traditional lead up to the Sydney Cup - the Group 2 Chairman's Handicap (2600m). Stockman hasn’t won for a while but there is plenty to like about this horse on Saturday. Loves heavy ground and will appreciate the step up in distance. Each way  @ $5.50 & $2.10
