Around the traps....

Motitsi's got the beach vibes at Warrnambool with Maddie

Happy Friday everyone! We just loved the footage supplied by Maddie Raymond of Motitsi following her gutsy win at Bendigo and just wanted to share it with all our owners.

Motitsi has now won 2 of her 3 starts this preparation and is loving the beach environment, and who wouldn't?! She's a perfect example of when change is the best medicine. We don't always get it right first time, but the magic is in knowing when to move them, and when to stay put. It seems a sea change for Motitsi was exactly what the doctor ordered.

Check her out having a swim behind the row boat at Lady Bay. Not sure if she loves the taste of the sea water though!

RTD Breeding information session changed to online session...

We are pleased to announce we will now offer our breeders information as a Zoom session. After feedback from our owners, particularly those who are regional and interstate, who would love to attend but can't make it, we made the call to change it to Zoom.

If you would like to attend the live Zoom next Thursday at 6pm, or receive a recording of the session, register your details with rob@rollthedice.com.au and we will send you the login links next week.

Last Week's Runners

Rebel Love went around at Tuncurry last week and nothing went right for her after the first 400, where she appeared to be in a good spot. Unfortuantely the horse got keen and the jockey decided to go out three wide rather than trying to restrain her, and that's when the race ended for us. Sitting three wide off a hot speed she tired late to finish 5th beaten by 2.5 lengths. There was merit in the run and we will look for another race next week for her.

Headlock made his return to the track in fine style at Sunshine Coast on Sunday, with a powerful finishing burst through the middle of the field to win impressively by a length. He jumped well and raced tractably and Ange Jones found the gaps in the straight, and Headlock did the rest. He's a nice horse and Tony Gollan thinks this win will do him the world of good for his confidence moving forward.

Hedged went around second up at Seymour on  Thursday and won very easily in an 1100m maiden by over 4 lengths. From the wide barrier he pushed across to take up the lead and he was never threatened after that cruising away to win comfortably. Beau Mertens commented that he loved the soft track and he has no doubts that he will run strong 1200m in the future.

This Week's Runners

Crown Waters is ready to make her racetrack debut at Ballarat today. Her recent jumpout on the synthetic was good and Archie Alexander is really happy with her. It doesn't look an overly strong maiden with only 6 runners and only 2 have raced before. Unless there is a star amongst the unraced brigade we go in confident that she can win. Dec Bates takes the ride and from barrier 2 we will be hard to beat.

Anahita has accepted at Caulfield this Saturday in a BM84 over 1400m for fillies and mares. This mare is in terrific form and we get the services of Ben Melham and barrier 6. The map looks good for her where she can sit off speed and present down the outside late and hopefully finish over the top of them.

Copperfield is going around at Cranbourne on Sunday in a BM64 over 1400m. Importantly he has finally drawn nicely in gate 5, and we have decided for a change in jockey with Craig Newitt to ride. The horse is going well and we expect him to go well. It's a track that he has won at before and he maps to get a lovely run and be strong late.

Rhapsody Chic also goes to Cranbourne on Sunday and runs in a BM64 over 1200m for his first start in Australia. The Freedman camp are really pleased with his trials leading in and he has drawn in barrier 1, which looks ideal for his racing pattern of sitting on the speed. Jockey Mark Zahra takes the ride and he looks very hard to beat.

Checkendon will go to Bairnsdale on Monday to contest a BM58 over 1200m. He has accepted at Cranbourne but doesn't look like he will get a run, and with Rhapsody Chic in the race we don't want to run them against each other. Checkendon has improved a lot from his first up flop and the race at Bairnsdale looks ideal to get him back on track.

Bear's Best Bets for the Weekend!

Change of location and a change of luck for the bear last week. His best of the day Pericles got up and won at $2.70, and he finished off the day nicely with an even money return on Mathew at The Valley who was scratched. It' s the confidence builder the big fella needs coming into the spring!

Off to the Heath this weekend and with the rail out 8m, the track will probably suit on the on pacers so let's hope he can find one or two for the team.

Good punting to you all...

Best of the day - Randwick - Race 8 no 11 Fangirl -
has had two quiet trials to be ready to roll for this first up assignment.  Reviewing the form in the last 2 preps she has been desperately unlucky bumping into stars first up - Anamoe - well there is no Anamoe on the weekend! Interesting to note, Fangirl finished a close 2nd to I Wish I Win in the $10m Golden Eagle as well. JMAC rode her in both trials  & is in the saddle on Saturday so I am trusting one of the best pilots in Australia to get the job done. Fangirl can win the first group 1 of the season & is another horse we can follow this entire spring.

Best Bet of the day $5 win

Each way / Value Bet - Caulfield -  Race 10 no 9 Berkeley Square -
I am sticking with my each way bet from two weeks ago.  It was a sick watch as Berkeley Square motored home to finish 4th.  Barrier 18 has the hallmark of a 'rinse n repeat'. The key difference in this race on Saturday is half of the field are stayers resuming, which will have longer distance race targets planned later in the spring. So even from the wide gate, I can see Jye McNeil making steady ground up the hill on the back straight to be in striking distance at the corner & the extra furlong suits. A great each way bet.

Each way all day @  $5 & $2
